G6 Homeroom Teachers' Graduation Remarks
Blueni Liu, 6 Zhi
Sam Lin, 6 Ren
Rulu Yang, 6 Red

Good morning, Principal, Chairman, esteemed guests, family members, and the graduating class of 2024 from Yu-Tsai, it’s an honor to stand before you today. As we bid farewell to elementary school, I can’t help but reflect on our journey together. We’ve weathered singing contests, reader’s theaters, exams, and behavior that defies the laws of physics.
Today is bittersweet. It’s sad to say goodbye, but I’m excited for the great things ahead for each of you. We’ve had an interesting time together. I’ve definitely grown as a teacher as I saw things that can never be unseen.
In our journey through elementary school, we faced storms together. Sometimes we stumbled, sometimes we fell, but we always stood back up as a class, united and resilient. Challenging times taught us that even when we made mistakes, we were stronger when we faced them together. Even when our viewpoints differ, we’re like puzzle pieces—distinct, yet fitting together,
So, dear students, as you venture into middle school, remember these three things.
Embrace Being Different: You’re unique, like that kid who insists on wearing mismatched sneakers. Celebrate your quirks, because normal is overrated.
Learn from Mistakes: Sure, you accidentally dropped a green building or crashed a food truck. But guess what? Life’s full of experiments. Keep mixing things up!
Kindness Matters: Be kinder than a grandma offering cookies. Smile at strangers, share your things, and remember that everyone’s fighting a secret battle.
As your teacher, I’m proud of how well you’ve learned. I hope you look back on these years with fondness, treasuring the memories at Yu-Tsai. May the friendships last a lifetime, and the knowledge guide your future. I know you’ll achieve great things.
Remember a mind is like a parachute. It doesn’t work if it’s not open. The choice is yours. May good fortune be with you.
Congratulations and goodbye, until we meet again.
Jane Fong, 6 Yellow
Ms. Lolit Carranza-Chen, 6 Yellow
To our distinguished guests, esteemed school administrators, hardworking fellow teachers, the graduating class of 2024 and their families, a very pleasant good morning to all of you.
First of all, congratulations to the entire class of 2024 – you’ve finally made it!
All of us present here today are beaming with pride, joy and gratitude because we are celebrating a milestone – the completion of your elementary studies and the beginning of the next stage which is junior high school.
Your journey towards this day was not an easy one. Our world was turned upside down with the arrival of Covid19 only a few years ago. Just like your peers in every part of the world, you braved the storm brought by the pandemic. You attended classes online, and you were not able to see anyone except maybe close family members, and you learned to roll with the flow in the midst of uncertainties. At such a young age, you all survived these challenges remarkably well. You’re an amazing group!
To my students in 6 Yellow Class, you were dealt with another disruption, another challenge, as you had to adapt to a new teacher just as you were about to reach the finish line in 6th grade. I was that teacher, and I had the privilege of teaching you for a short period of time. Having a new teacher when you were almost at the end of 6th grade was certainly an unwelcome disruption, just like the pandemic, but not as life threatening. It meant having new ways of doing things, a new set of routines, and a different set of expectations. In my first week on the job, a skeptic among you asked as I was teaching a new material “Is that true? Did you Google it?” It was amazing – that unshakeable faith in Google.
These unexpected disruptions are part and parcel of living. This is because life doesn’t follow the expected. Nothing in this life is permanent except change. It pays to remember that when life gives you lemons, make lemonade. It’s one way of saying: make the best out of a bad situation. You adapt.
When faced with difficult situations, continue to persevere. Just like during the pandemic, you kept going. Perseverance isn’t just about finishing a race; it’s about doing what is needed to be done even when it’s difficult or boring. According to the great Martin Luther, "If you can't fly then run, if you can't run then walk, if you can't walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward."
Thank you.
Olivia Hsu, 6 Blue

“The Unstoppable Pen”
To everyone here today…
I want to say thank you to all the teachers, staff and parents who made it possible for these students to achieve all of the amazing things they have. It is stated that a village is needed to raise a child…so rejoice in all of the accomplishments these students receive here today, since you worked just as hard in achieving them.
To the students…
Normally when a person makes a speech they praise you for all of your achievements and congratulate you and thank you, but today I want to do something a little different. I want to give you one more lesson…one that will help you in becoming not only the best students which we already know you are, but also the best people that will shape the future of tomorrow.
Start off by looking at this pen…
A simple tool, yet powerful beyond measure…
I can be negative towards the pen…”You are horrible! You are useless! You are worthless! But look…the pen does not change...”
I can also be positive towards the pen…”You are amazing! You are wonderful! You are the best thing ever! But look again…the pen still did not change...”
This pen doesn’t waver; it remains steady, no matter what’s happening around it and no matter who says what to it. It doesn’t care about external pressures or doubts. Instead, it writes with purpose and determination. This pen here graded your tests and exams, gave you scores and helped to shape your future…and it did so without hesitation.
You, my dear students, should try to be like the pen. Life will throw challenges your way, but remember: you’re unyielding. When doubts creep in, declare, “I am enough.” When expectations weigh you down, lift your pen high and say, “I am resilient.”
Your journey isn’t about being perfect; it’s about progress. Each stroke of your pen—each word, each math problem, each expression—is a step forward. Embrace the mistakes; they shape your story. Celebrate the victories; they highlight your growth.
As you step into the unknown, hold your pen with pride. Every time you see your pen in your hand, remember that it symbolizes your courage and potential. Write your own story, leaving behind a legacy of resilience and kindness. And when storms come…and they will come…, remember: you’re the author of your destiny, and this pen—this unstoppable pen—will write your triumphs.
Congratulations, Class of 2024!
